Please vote on the cover of 5 Love Languages Military Edition

by Jocelyn on December 11, 2012

Please help us decide which cover concept to move forward with for the upcoming book, The 5 Love Languages Military Edition. There are 8 covers in this PDF: 5LL-Military Edition. So please leave a comment telling which of the 8 you think would be best. Let’s keep in mind we want this to appeal to ALL branches of the military.

*PLEASE NOTE: In the first two cover designs, the dog tags are currently blank, but the designer can add writing to them as he has done in other cover designs. So if that would sway your vote, please feel free to specify you’d like one of those covers but with writing on the tags. Thanks!

One lucky commenter will win a copy of Dr. Gary Chapman & Chris Fabry’s novella, A Christmas Carol!

Hope to hear from you by Thursday night!

Prefer Cover 8

The cover with the faces in the medal remind me of Queen Elizabeth
The camo cover is not the current camo
The green star cover seems more Army focused
The uniform covers are too service specific

I vote for # 6! The Stars and Stripes appeal to all branches of service and catch the eye of this Military Wife of 17 years.

I like the simplicity of the first two (particularly the blue, but we’re USAF!), but I don’t like the plain dog tags. The camo not being current doesn’t bother me as it is always changing, and that definitely has more of a multi-national appeal. For the US market, I love the flag with the tags and rings. I really am not one to mess with medals, so I while the last two are a neat concept, I don’t really like them.

My husband and I both like #6.

Yep, Carrie, I hear that on the medals point. Heard that from a few veterans, as well. I wonder if the first two concepts would hold more appeal for people if the dog tags had writing on them. I’m sure that’s something the designer can do… I liked the blue one (the gold one reminded me of Gold Star–loss of a service member–sad) and I do like the flag. But this isn’t about what I like. Need LOTS of people to give feedback. :)

I agree Jocelyn, the gold cover reminded me of gold star flags and that would be a bit sad – especially for a marriage book.

Since we are wanting to appeal to all branches of the military, I choose # 6. I love the flag background. It speaks to all branches. The colors are captivating. I love the wedding rings and the dog tags that vividly have a soldier’s identification on them very realistic.

The color Scheme to # 1 is too close to the 5 Love Languages Men’s Edition. I don’t like the blank dog tags.

I agree with Alice Dawson, #3 and #4 are too service specific.

I don’t like #2. The dog tags are plain. They should have a soldier’s identification to make them look realistic. I don’t like the background blue.

The background to #5 does not appeal to me. It is drab and depressing.

I don’t like the white background to 7 & 8

I hope my thoughts help.

I vote for #6. The cover with the American flag on it. It is beautiful and not branch specific.

#2 w/ the blue background caught my eye at first until I got to #6 with the flag and I love that the best. #6 is definitely my favorite, but I wish it’s dogtags/rings was hanging down on the chain like in #2 versus just laying there because that looks kind of like a keychain to me. :)

I vote #6. The American flag speaks to all who are serving or have served :)

I also love number 6. I think it appeals to all branches of the military. It is eye-catching (in my opinion). I also don’t like messing with medals, and I think some of the others are too branch-specific.

First off I’M SO EXCITED about this book :) it’ll be a wonderful way to get to know my husband more. So now for the vote. I love the idea of the American Flag- it’s universal, it’s what we stand for. But I prefer the wedding rings dangling around the dogtags. So. #6′s background with the tags of #1

I like the 4th. It will tell the reader “military” at a glance and that’s your audience. I think they should, however, lengthen the chain on the dog tags (unless dog tags really do also come on a keychain). They can leave the excess chain in a “chain pile” at the side, or even run it off the page. If they keep the camouflage on the spine, that will stand out immediately to the military personnel.

I like the one with the flag. It doesn’t look branch specific, and what milfam doesn’t love the Stars and Stripes? The ones with the stars only, and the 2 with the medals only, make me sad (gold star fams). Dog tags should def have inscription to make them more realistic.

I like the blue cover with the star and the flag cover. Either one is great!

I like #6 the best of the ones there and if you’re going all across all the branches I think it’s the most appealing. Our flag is a symbol that every branch stands for and is the reason why our spouses are serving in the military.
Don’t like blank dog tags, they strike me as very impersonal. And the star in 1 & 2 reminds me of Army.
#3 is nice, but reminds me of my husband’s AF jacket even though that’s not what it is, so probably wouldn’t work for widespread appeal.
#4 is ok but I agree the camo is outdated and a little service specific.
#5 is too plain and the ones with medals just make me feel sad….reminding of deployment and a little too close to the Purple Heart.

I vote #6 the flag is beautiful, and that is why we do what we do, for that flag! <3 I CAN NOT wait to read this! I have been saying I wished there were a military version out there for years! Thank you, thank you for writing this!

I am voting for #6. The American flag in the background regards all branches of the military and what our military and miltary families sacrifice for (love of country). I like the dog tags b/c every member of the miltary wears them for their identity (as the 5 love languages is a read to help a husband and wife find their identity of the type of love their spouse “speaks” in the love language book). And the wedding rings are a great representative of the forever (until death due us part) that is often challenging for any military couple as they face the many challenges the military has to offer. But with the type of love God requires us to practice, we must find each others language in love and remain true to our covenant. (From the wife of a US Army soldier).

I like option #6, its timeless. I really need to get this book for my husband and me. To get closer after his deployment

Reply

Christina December 12, 2012 at 1:36 pm

I like #6 the best. It looks patriotic but does not single out one particular branch over another. The honor of flying our flag touches deep in the heart of the military and may also reach out to others that are not in the military but may buy the book to give to someone in the military.

Reply

Stacey December 12, 2012 at 2:02 pm

I vote for # 6! I agree with a previous comment that it speaks to all branches. I hope in the book that it speaks to all military, not only active duty. I am an Army Guard spouse with a husband currently deployed. So many support resources and books are specific to active duty and would love to see a great book that applies to all.

I absolutely can’t decide between #1, #6 and #8. I love the dog tags because a lot of military families obviously can relate to that, the flag is beautiful as always and the medal one represents a “Medal of Honor” love and marriage which our unit is currently doing as a marriage devotional with our chaplain and my husband, the chaplain assistant ;) . I love it!!!! I am stoked for the new book and just get chills thinking about getting my hands on it! :)
