A New Prayer for a New Year

One year ago, just a few weeks into our third deployment, instead of writing a list of resolutions, I wrote this prayer:

Lord,
You know my heart. You know my spirit and the very depths of my soul. You created me. The road ahead is long and today I just want to bask in you. I want to be surrounded by your spirit and filled with a peace that only you can give. Help me convert my prayers from my will to what YOUR will is for my life this year. Lord, give me the strength to accept it. I thank you now, for the people you will place in my path to be what I need them to be throughout this deployment and I ask that you help me be to others what they need as well. You are my God. My strength comes from you. Remove my scales. Help me to see you, even on the days when its difficult. On the days when its easy, don’t let me lose sight that the goodness comes from you. Its not my own strength, my attitude, or anything I have done on my own, but it is your faithfulness and unconditional love for me that has brought me to a place where I can praise you on the good days and draw closer to you on the bad ones. Amen.

January is almost over, but the year is still new! What is your prayer for 2013? Write it! Read it daily! Keep a journal throughout the year of how God has answered your prayer. You will stand in awe of His faithfulness and the strength you were given throughout the journey, whatever the new year may bring. Go forward with the confidence you CAN do this. You are HIS. He’s got you!

“I’m thanking you, God, out in the streets,
singing your praises in town and country.
The deeper your love, the higher it goes;
every cloud’s a flag to your faithfulness.
Soar high in the skies, O God!
Cover the whole earth with your glory!
And for the sake of the one you love so much,
reach down and help me—answer me!” Psalm 108 3-6 (MSG)

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak…. But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength” That’s this weeks scripture found in Isaiah 40:28-31. What a reassuring message! Life can make us weary… it can deplete us from the strength we need to get out of bed and do the things we are required to do. Yes, we can work out by lifting weights and taking our fitness walk. Those activities can provide us a level of fitness that enable our bodies to function physically, yet we also need additional inner strength to be able to function well. Since our mind, body and spirit are interconnected, how we feel spiritually or emotionally can effect or physical energy level. That’s where God can help.
